Altos Las Hormigas, named for the many ants that roam the property, was founded in 1995 by two young Italians, winemaker Alberto Antonini of Antinori and entrepreneur Antonio Morescalchi. They came to South America looking for land and found this plot and were inspired to plant malbec, an as of yet mostly unexplored grape in Mendoza. Over time, the winery began to invest in the potential of Mendoza's cooler, high-elevation Uco Valley and launched their Terroir Project, with the shared ambition alongside other producers to ultimately create an appellation system in Mendoza which would highlight both the Malbec grape's nuances and the geographical diversity of their region.
A rich, tannic wine with notes of blackberries, plums, and baking spices. Tannin and acidity are balanced for a lush drinking experience.
