The history of the castle of Meleto can be established back to the 11th century when it housed the Benedictine monks of Badia a Coltibuono. In the 1960s, it was the site of “Operazione Vigneti”: the first Italian crowdfunding dedicated to wine. Viticola Toscana was established in 1966 to bring more vineyard growing and workers to the area. In May 1968, Gianni Mazzocchi, founder of Editoriale Domus, had the idea of launching a subscription called “Operation Vineyards”. The aim was to raise 150 million Lire by subscribing shares worth 10,000 Lire each. Each membership had to be of "at least a minimum cultivating share unit" , corresponding to 100 shares, for a minimum value of 1 million Lire. Now 60 years later, the company and shareholders own 1400 hectares, 160 of which are used for vineyard space.
A mid-bodied, complex wine with a velvety texture. Slightly herbaceous with a zippy finish and a hint of oak. Excellent for chardonnay drinkers who want to try something new.
