The Château de Chasseloir dates back to the 15th century. At that time, the existing château was the borderlands between Brittany and France, owned by the Comte Leloup de Chasseloir (hence the name). It was destroyed in the French Revolution and never rebuilt. Thanks to the writings of Sophie Trébuchet, Victor Hugo’s mother, we now know that it had seven towers (one of which still stands), an orangery and an inner courtyard. The farmhouse and estate was rebuilt and purchased in 1953 by Bernard Chéreau. The current estate is 25 hectares of vines that are between 35 and 120 years old. Now Bernard’s granddaughter, Louise is taking over as the estate’s winemaker.
Breezy white flowers on the nose transitions to profound earthiness and notes of freshly baked bread on the palate. The wine spends 14 months on the lees and 2 years in bottle before it’s ready for your table.
