Château Grand Français has been owned by the same family for the last 500 years. The name Grand Français comes from the occupation of Aquitaine by the English in the 14th century. The estate has 600 hectares of vineyards with winemaking cellars that adjoin the castle. The vineyards were planted in the 15th century by a distant relative of the current owner, Dominique Vacher and have always been farmed using traditional and organic methods. They are now part of the 2% of vineyards in Bordeaux that use natural winemaking practices. They grow exclusively cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and merlot. This single varietal expression of cabernet franc spends nine months aging in amphora ( large terracotta vessels).
Aromas of cherry stone and a wisp of smoke. Black cherry with plush tannins on the palate with plush tannins and a lavender and cocoa powder finish.
