  • Luis Pato is known as the King of Baga (an indigenous red grape variety) and has helped to bring attention to the Bairrada region. The Pato family has been producing wine at Quinta do Ribeirinho since, at least, the eighteenth century. João Pato started to bottle the wine from his vineyards in 1970, becoming the first winegrower in the Bairrada region after its demarcation. His son, Luis Pato, inherited this nonconformist and pioneer spirit. In 1980, Luis produced his first wine, a pure Baga. After experimenting with Baga over the years, Luis was even able to produce the first Vinhas Velhas wine from Portugal! However, in 1999, by personal choice, he left DOC denomination and now labels his wines as Regional Beiras. His two daughters, Filipa and Maria, are renown winemakers in their own right, also working in Bairrada.

This mid-bodied white is a rare example of a single varietal expression of the grape, maría gomes. Fermented only in stainless steel, this wine has a candied quality with notes of peachy stonefruit and under ripe apricot.
