This sherry house began as a cooperage (barrel maker) in 1830 by master cooper José Antonio Sierra. Sierra wanted to break into making sherry, but because he wasn’t part of the aristocracy (who have historically and to this day dominated the sherry industry), it was frowned upon. He built a small winery and began making sherry anyway. It is still owned by Sierra’s family and has been woman-led for the last three generations. In 1976, they were finally able to make and bottle their own sherry onsite, making them the first sherry house to buck aristocratic tradition, as well as the first to be run by a woman.
This blonde sherry has aromas of almond oil and notes of warm butterscotch and toffee.
