Ignacio Ameztoi is the fifth generation of his family to carry on the tradition of making txakolina in the province of Getaria. Itxas Harri is his new project with his long-time friend and winemaking partner, Iñaki Guelbenzu. Together they have acquired 2 hectares of old vines in the village of Monteagudo in the northern Basque region of Navarra. This area is known for its fresh and low-alcohol garnacha and tempranillo wines. Navarra is considered the garden of Spain for its top quality produce such as asparagus, piquillo peppers, artichokes, and sheep milk cheeses like Roncal and Idiazábal, as well as the Txistorra sausage. Inspiration for Itxas Harri grew over the years with Iñaki (who is from Navarra) and Ignacio repeatedly visiting the area, searching out the best local ingredients.
Fruit-forward and crushable but still elegant, with flavors and aromas of bright strawberry and cherry. Pairs well with grilled fish and vegetables.
