Radikon is located in the town of Oslavia, on a relatively tiny stretch of hills north of the border town of Gorizia in the Isonzo zone of Friuli. The vineyards were originally planted by the late and famed winemaker, Stanko Radikon’s grandfather Franz Mikulus in the 1930s. He planted exclusively Ribolla Gialla In 1948, Stanko’s parents, who had inherited the property from his mother’s father, planted Merlot, (Tocai) Friulano and Pinot Grigio. Today, his son Saša has taken over the winemaking duties and the rest of his family continues to run the estate. Saša spent his youth learning under his father and continues to make wines the way they always have.
Slatnik is named for a nearby village and is bottle-aged for a year before release. Skin contact is brief but still gives structure with black tea-like tannins. Rich marmalade and stone fruit notes help balance the acidity while minerality punches up the freshness of this wine.
