Sindicat La Figurea is a 25 hectare cooperative founded in 1932 at high elevation, up in the Montsant Mountains. When the co-op was founded, La Figuera (which means “fig tree” in Catalan) was a thriving town that eventually hit hard times in the 50s when a storm devastated the vineyards. The coop went from 25 members to being currently run by 3 members. Famed Priorat-based winemaker, Rene Barbiere, took note of La Figuera’s garnatxa wines and decided to join forces with the members of the co-op.
This medium-bodied red has lively notes of red and black fruit with a bright acidity, fine tannins and chalky minerality. White pepper and bay leaf linger on the finish.
