  • Castello Vicchiomaggio is also a well-known producer of Chianti Classico. The castle has always hosted winemaking and its current owners,  John and Paola Matta are carrying on the tradition. The estate covers 140 hectares, 34 of which are vineyards, 10 are olive trees and the rest is countryside. They primarily cultivated sangiovese but also grow smaller amounts of canaiolo, colorino, merlot and cabernet sauvignon.

This is a single vineyard Chianti Classico that spends 18 months in Tuscan oak. Ruby red with brick red undertones. Notes of cherry and ripe fruits. Muscular but elegant, with plenty of rounded tannins and a lingering waft of eucalyptus. Enjoyable now but will develop very well over the years.
