  • producer: Hakutsuru
  • region: Kobe
  • appellation: Nada District
  • country: JPN
  • fruit variety: ume (Japanese plum)

  • The Hakutsuru brewery was founded in 1743 by lumber dealer, Jihei Kano in Kobe, Japan. The name means “white crane,” meant to represent the refined quality of its products. After presenting their sake at the 1900 World’s Fair in Paris, they went on to establish their brand globally in the 20th century.

This wine is made from a unique variety of Japanese plums called “ume.” In spite of its name, this fruit is more closely related to apricots. This semi-sweet wine is  slightly tart with bright and tangy notes of apricot and a luxuriously silky texture. A perfect aperitif or dessert wine and a nice pairing with blue cheeses.
