Quinta do Ferro, Viñhao Sparkling Red NV

Quinta do Ferro is a family project founded in 1999 and run by Micaela Ferro on the right bank of the Douro River, in a sub-region of Vinho Verde. The vineyards are high up in the hills, where she has been working since the late 90s. She focuses on growing native varieties like avesso, which is similar to alvarinho (albariño), arinto and viñhao. In addition to growing indigenous varieties, Quinta do Ferro focuses on making sparkling wines, and was a pioneer in its foundation, being the first winery in the region to be built and designed from scratch to produce sparkling wine. 

This traditional-method, red sparkling wine has flavors of raspberries, blackberry jam, and cranberry. It’s both tart and refreshing, and finishes with aromatic notes of eucalyptus, lavender and warm spices. Excellent with pizza and barbecue chicken.
